Fabrics

The fabric is a living material, capable of conveying comfort, elegance, and authentic tactile sensations. In Desalto products, every fabric is selected to enhance the design and define the character of the furniture through a combination of textures, tones, and light reflections. The different types of fabric vary in composition, durability, and maintenance requirements, offering suitable solutions for the specific needs of each project. Attention to detail — from the weave to the tactile quality — reflects Desalto’s ongoing commitment to offering upholstery that blends innovation and tradition, with particular care for durability, sensory quality, and ease of maintenance. The result is a material that not only completes the form but enhances its function and long-lasting value.

Desalto considers the variety of fabrics an essential element of its design philosophy. The collection includes numerous types of fabrics, selected to meet a wide range of aesthetic and sensory needs. Each option stems from research that brings together textile technology and artisanal sensitivity, spanning from natural fibers to more innovative compositions. This broad selection allows for a free interpretation of styles, functions, and atmospheres, always ensuring an experience consistent with Desalto’s identity: a balance between materiality and lightness, form and comfort, tradition and contemporaneity. The goal is to offer designers and clients the opportunity to give each piece of furniture a personal voice through the material richness and chromatic nuances of the fabric.

To facilitate an informed and harmonious choice, Desalto organizes its fabrics into categories that represent different levels of performance, texture, and aesthetic refinement. Each category defines a material universe with its own characteristics and sensations — from the most essential and versatile fabrics, ideal for discreet elegance, to richer and more structured ones designed to give visual depth and tactile presence to upholstered pieces.
This classification does not establish a hierarchy but instead offers an articulated and coherent language for interpreting the material in relation to the project. In this way, Desalto enables each client to build a unique balance of aesthetics, comfort, and personality, embodying a design conceived to endure over time.

Maintenance and Cleaning

The guidelines below are general indications and serve as broad recommendations for the care of upholstery fabrics in the Desalto collections: To ensure proper maintenance, it is advisable to clean the upholstery regularly using a vacuum cleaner equipped with a soft brush, in order to remove dust and surface particles. Any stains should be treated promptly and gently, avoiding vigorous rubbing and the use of harsh products or products not specifically suitable for the fabric in question. It is always preferable to use soft cloths slightly moistened with water, working only on the affected area.

It is recommended not to expose the upholstery to direct sources of heat or intense light for prolonged periods, in order to preserve its original colour and characteristics.

These instructions are intended as an initial guide. For further details and specific procedures, it is always advisable to refer to the composition of each fabric as indicated in the respective technical sheets and to contact the company directly.

The selection of an upholstery also involves understanding its specific characteristics. For this reason, Desalto provides technical sheets for the fabrics, available for download below. Each document includes a brief presentation of the fabric, describing its distinctive features, technical composition, a list of obtained certifications, and the complete colour range. This tool is designed to assist designers, retailers, and clients in making informed choices, providing clear and up-to-date information that reflects the quality and variety of the available upholstery options.
