Desalto per UNIQLO

When design meets the way we live our everyday lives. Desalto enters the UNIQLO store in Piazza Cordusio, Milan, shaping a space where Italian design and Japanese sensibility come together — beyond definitions and united by a shared idea of everyday living.

On the occasion of the launch of the new LifeWear Magazine, the publication that explores UNIQLO’s philosophy and its approach to clothing as a natural part of everyday life, Desalto brings two of its most representative collections into the store: the Unlimited seating system, designed by Francesco Rota, and the Mini Clay table, designed by Marc Krusin.

On the first floor of the showroom, the area dedicated to the magazine thus becomes a space to experience as much as to pass through: a place to pause, read and observe. A small interruption in the rhythm of shopping, where forms, materials and atmospheres create a quiet dialogue between two design cultures.

Because, ultimately, dressing and living have something in common. Both tell us who we are through what we choose to have around us. Clothing defines the way we position ourselves in the world; an object, instead, defines the way we choose to experience it. Fashion and design therefore share the same pursuit: giving shape to everyday life without weighing it down, transforming function into an experience. It is precisely within this vision that the encounter between Desalto and UNIQLO finds its most authentic meaning. Two brands that may appear distant, belonging to different worlds, recognise themselves in a shared approach to design: creating products capable of naturally becoming part of people’s lives through quality, research, essentiality and attention to detail.

The welcoming yet precise forms of Unlimited and the sculptural yet essential presence of Mini Clay integrate seamlessly into the architecture of the store, creating a balance between comfort and visual lightness. Not simply objects placed within a space, but elements that contribute to defining its atmosphere and the way it is experienced.

The collaboration holds particular significance for Desalto, for whom the world of upholstered furniture represents a relatively recent design direction. The presence of Unlimited within a fashion-oriented environment thus becomes an opportunity to explore new territories and languages, demonstrating the versatility of the collection without compromising its identity.

Like an outfit, a space is also built through combinations. Forms, colours, textures and materials interact to create an identity. The possibility of customising Desalto products through a wide selection of fabrics and finishes opens up endless combinations, much like in fashion: every choice becomes a gesture, every pairing a statement of style.

In the Piazza Cordusio setting, the metal of the base dialogues with the neutral tones and essential surfaces of the seating, creating an intense and vibrant material contrast, in harmony with the pursuit of balance, simplicity and restraint that lies at the heart of UNIQLO’s Japanese aesthetic.

Perhaps this is where design and fashion cease to be simply categories and become languages. Different languages, yet capable of expressing the same thing: the way we inhabit the present.

Desalto and UNIQLO thus meet in the heart of Milan around a shared vision: to design the things that accompany us every day, with the ambition of making them simpler, more beautiful and more authentic.Because when style is truly contemporary, it is not only about what we see.

It is about the way we choose to live.
