Helsinki 30
The Helsinki 30 collection is conceived as a system of tables featuring a knock-down steel frame with a 30×30 mm section and die-cast joints: a technical solution that combines construction precision with flexibility of use. The essential design of the structure, visually slender, reveals a surprising solidity, resulting from the balance between carefully calibrated proportions and the quality of the materials. Helsinki 30 fits naturally even into small domestic settings, where visual lightness becomes a true design asset. The slim frame does not weigh down the space but complements it, allowing the environment to breathe while ensuring stability and long-lasting durability.
In the mid-1990s, when the first Helsinki models entered production—initially tables and accessories for home and office—the world of furniture design was undergoing a period of realignment. After the extravagances and excesses of postmodernism, a widespread desire for sobriety and simplicity began to emerge. The radical celebration of decoration, fragmentation, and ephemerality gave way to the search for renewed formal coherence; the hi-tech mannerism was replaced by the exploration of a solid, discreet functionality. For some, these trends were merely a wave to follow, one possible direction within a system increasingly dominated by the rapid proliferation of proposals and variations. For others, such as the Orsenigo brothers, founders of Desalto, it was a mission: to define new archetypes by reconnecting design to the essence of living and working spaces.
Since its founding in 1990, Desalto has pursued values of harmony, balance, elegance, and versatility through original concepts developed at the intersection of design culture, technological innovation, and manufacturing excellence. The Helsinki collection, designed by Caronni + Bonanomi and enriched over time with new elements, accessories, and finishes, has embodied this philosophy for more than twenty years, inspiring multiple possible narratives for the new millennium.
Its versatility is also expressed through finishes: available in all glossy and matte lacquered colors in the collection, Helsinki 30 can take on very different characters, from the most understated to the most striking. These are complemented by Desalto’s exclusive galvanic finishes, which introduce a more tactile and sophisticated dimension, enhancing the purity of the structure through unexpected reflections and depth. Accessories, such as integrable drawers, further enrich the system, adding functionality without disturbing its balance. Every element is precisely placed, preserving the overall harmony. In this way, Helsinki 30 demonstrates how a seemingly simple project can become a piece of character, where technical rigor and aesthetic sensitivity coexist naturally.
Helsinki 30 is a project that draws its strength from restraint. Its steel structure, essential and rigorous, stems from a simple idea: reducing the design to what is strictly necessary. Yet it is precisely in this synthesis that the value of the result lies. The lightness of the lines meets tangible solidity, giving rise to a table that adapts naturally to different settings—from residential to contract—without ever losing its formal coherence.

Flavio Caronni from the early Seventies dealt with furniture and interior design. At the same time Donato Bonanomi developed his activity as designer for the textile industry.
Their joint venture, from the mid Eighties, has put them together in different projects and contests, in particular the ones regarding residential housing.
In 1990 they set up an architecture studio for residential and industrial projects, development and renovations, indoor architecture and design.
